2 GRANA

Three plates were used to print this stamp. Several elements allow for the identification between plates. About the 1st plate, the stamps were printed from a matrix made by 4 groups of 25 parts (two at the top and two at the bottom): the elements that allow for the identification between the 4 groups are different. The 2nd plate presents the same characteristics of the 1st plate and therefore is difficult to distinguish between the two.

Fig. 3: 3rd plate

The identification elements are:

1st PLATE - upper left group (Fig. 1)
Small white dot under the nose. Sometimes it's visible also a very small white dot over the nose.
The distance between stamps horizontally is 1.5 mm and 2mm vertically.
1st PLATE - upper right group (Fig. 1b)
Small color dot over the nose.
Letters "ST" of "POSTA" joined at top by a little dot of white color.
Little white dot under the head at top right.
Two white dots: one on the right of the neck and the other on the left of the "C" of "SICILIA", joined to the inner frame.
1st PLATE - lower groups (Fig. 1c)
Small color dot in front of the eyebrow.
2nd PLATE (Fig. 2)
It has indeed the same characteristics of the first plate; it's often difficult to recognize it versus the first one. Only a good knowledge and the examination of the single stereotype allow for the plate identification.
3rd PLATE (Fig. 3)
No white dots close to the nose.
Often a white dot on the back of the ear and one over the neck can be noticed. However these signs are not perfectly visible.
There are often areas of the stamp with white spots.
The distance between the stamps is 1.5 mm horizontally and 2 mm vertically.
